"Everywhere we look, history surrounds us. In each city, town, village and landscape, historic buildings and sites define the character of the places where we live and work. Losing these landmarks, through neglect and decay, changes the way a place looks for ever, and squanders its most valuable assets."

Simon Thurley, Chief Executive, English Heritage

Our second event in May is …..'A Magical Mystery Design and Heritage Tour of Blackpool!!!!' Go on, trust us…….!!

On Thursday 24th May, an exciting guided tour has been arranged to see some of the amazing new developments in our neighbouring town, both new build and also heritage restoration projects. Blackpool has a very active Civic Trust and we were invited to their recent very impressive Annual Civic Design Awards event held at the magnificently restored Winter Gardens Pavilion. Wow - this is but a start - our hosts from Blackpool Civic Trust, together with Carl Carrington, Built Heritage Manager and Conservation Officer for Blackpool Borough Council, will have much to show us…..
We have been asked to make our own way to the Solarium on South Shore and we will then be taken by heritage bus on a tour of several venues during the morning. The afternoon will be spent at other venues in the town and we shall return to Solaris by tram along the Promenade late afternoon. We need to limit the size of our party to a maximum of 40 people - no doubt a full compliment of 438 members would be a bit much, even for Blackpool!! So if you are interested -

Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Charge will be minimal, apart from lunch arrangements which have yet to be finalised, and so we will be asking for donations to be given to Blackpool Civic Trust to further their work in the town and also the Lancastrian Transport Trust.

Tickets are needed for a place on the tour. This will be organised on a first come - first served basis.

Starting at 9.15am, we are in for a long but very stimulating day!!

Two special events are planned for June.

Firstly to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee; and later in the month, our own very first national Civic Voice Day marked with many other events by civic societies throughout the country.

Wednesday 13th June

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebratory Afternoon Tea Party. To be held at Lytham Hall with the Lord of the Manor, Mr James Hilton. The Town Crier of Lytham will be in attendance during the afternoon.

This will be an informal occasion with the present Lord of the Manor, Mr James Hilton, who will be talking about some of the interesting responsibilities undertaken in his unique historic office.

All proceeds will go to the Lytham Hall Appeal.

This will be a ticket only occasion with a limited number of places available. The price of tickets is £15.

Saturday 23rd June 2012

Our own first national CIVIC VOICE DAY a date which happens to coincide with Lytham Club Day and will be shared with other Civic Societies throughout the country.

Lytham St Annes Civic Society Showcase Event

The Assembly Rooms at Lytham from 11.00am until 4.00pm.

Come and join a fun activity day set amidst a variety of events and displays by local groups who have pride in our town, and wish to protect and enhance our local environment.

Of course, we expect Lytham to be as busy as ever on Club Day with crowds thronging the town centre. Invitations will be going out to other like-minded local charity organisations inviting them to participate with us on this occasion. Call in and see us when passing by - after the procession, maybe - and see the work of some of these hard-working community-minded groups in our town.

Many willing helpers needed please! Further details will be given in our May newsletter.

7th/ 8th/9th September St Annes Arts Festival - coinciding with Heritage Open Days.
